Emergency Calling

Emergency calling on every Waffle

Every Waffle device can call Triple Zero (000) directly. It’s on by default, can’t be turned off, and works even during school hours, quiet hours, and any restrictions you’ve set.

Waffle Go — 000 calling
  • Your child presses and holds the call button and power button together for 5 seconds. When SOS appears on screen, they press the call button to dial 000.
  • Connects over WiFi or mobile data, so it works away from home.
  • Sends GPS location where available — but because it’s portable, your child may still need to tell the operator where they are.
  • Always on — it works during school hours, quiet hours, and any restrictions you’ve set.
Waffle Home — 000 calling
  • Your child dials 000 on the handset keypad.
  • Connects over WiFi only — there is no cellular fallback.
  • Waffle Home won’t call 000 if your WiFi, internet, or power is down.
  • Uses your registered service address so responders know where to go.
  • Always on — it works during quiet hours and any restrictions you’ve set.
Always on, can’t be turned off

Emergency calling is built in and always available. It works during school hours, quiet hours, and any parent-set restrictions — nothing you set can block a call toTriple Zero (000).

You’re notified instantly

The moment a call connects, the Waffle Parent Hub sends you a push notification with the time, the device’s location, and that000was called. It’s sent in parallel with the call, so it never delays your child reaching the operator.

Important information about 000 calling

Registered location

You must provide a valid Australian service address during setup and keep it up to date in the Waffle Parent Hub. Emergency operators may rely on this address to dispatch help, especially for Waffle Home. If it is wrong or out of date, responders may be sent to the wrong place.

Power and internet outages

Waffle needs both power and a working internet connection to call 000. Waffle Home uses WiFi only and will not call 000 during a power outage, internet outage, or WiFi failure. In areas of poor coverage, a call may not connect.

Reliance on third-party routing

Emergency calls are carried and connected through Telstra’s Emergency Call Service — Australia’s emergency call person — together with other third-party carriers and networks. Waffle relies on these providers and does not control whether or how an emergency call is connected or routed.

No liability for emergency services

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Waffle is not liable for any failure, delay, misrouting, or unavailability of 000 calling, or for any loss, injury, or harm arising from it. Waffle is a communication device, not a substitute for a mobile or fixed-line phone. Always keep a working phone available.

Important reminder

Waffle is a communication device, not a substitute for emergency services. Always keep a working phone available, and make sure your child knows how to call 000 from any phone.
